Graphic Design
Unleashing The
Basics:
Before
computers were used for graphic design and desktop
publishing, designers worked in "camera-ready" mode -
that is, assembling photos and lettering on a real artboard and
then shooting it with a camera. If you're old enough to have had
a job as a paste-up artist you will love the versatility and
power of computers for graphic design work. The ease of being
able to undo your errors is somewhat more pleasant on a computer
than doing it in hard-copy form with bits of paper, tape, glue,
etc.
So what
has the incredibly powerful yet relatively affordable computer
done for the commercial design and printing world? It gives
someone who knows practically nothing about printing processes,
film, ink mixing, printing presses, plate making, and a whole
host of other 'old school' skills, the ability to design artwork
and be quite happy with the results, thank you very much. The
only problem about this wonderful new world of computer graphics
we live in is that pitfalls abound for the uninitiated.
Artwork
related issues are (overwhelmingly) the number one reason for
order delays and extra charges. If you don’t know what
CMYK or a Photoshop file is, find someone who does and have them
read these pages with you, or you can simply call 1-800-557-3347
for a quote on our design services.
We will be
happy to take your snap shots of the band, lay over your words,
and do whatever you like. If you are really serious about
design, look in the yellow pages of your nearest city under
“Desktop Publishing” or vocational schools. Local designers
should be supported, and the added comfort of you being able to
participate in a design session will prove to be invaluable for
next time.
