Graphic Design
Spot Color
Workflow:
Illustrator:
Select spot colors using the WINDOW > Swatch
Libraries > Pantone Coated

Always
refer to the program's help section for details.
Don't
want to go there? Trying
to deal with spot colors can be frustrating. The cost
difference between 2 or 3 SPOT colors and CMYK on the
disc face is not that great in today's market. Perhaps
switching to a full color CMYK label may ease the
complexity of your project.
Photoshop:
Because of the way page layout programs work, spot
colors inside images are not a possibilty. Unless we are
dealing with an experienced graphic designer and can
export DCS files, we do not allow customers to specify
spot colors inside images. Work in CMYK or GRAYSCALE
color mode within Photoshop. We will accept color
substitutions if you annotate your template, so advanced
designers can save an image as GRAYSCALE or CMYK TIF
files (tagged image format) and then in the template
layout program assign PMS colors to the separated films.
Since each film is made into printing plates the machine
operators can swap colors for you on the fly.
Basic
example below would be to write BLACK = SOMETHING ELSE
using the text tool in Quark or Illustrator.

a comment to replace black with PMS285
