Understanding
The Colors:
The
paper that slides into the front of the jewel case is known as
the "insert". It's often a folder of some sort - but
can be stapled into a booklet -it is the part that you can pull
out of the jewel box. The piece of paper that you
see when you turn the jewel box over and look at the back is
referred to as the "traycard."

If the
insert pictured to the left was a single piece of paper with no
folds, it would be called a 2 page insert. Page, panel -it's all
the same to us. If you want a 4 page insert, then you would have
one fold. A 6 panel insert has 2 folds.

A
Note About Color Vs. Price Quotes
- There
is no discount for all black and white printing of a
booklet and traycard. Our price quote options are 4
over 1 or 4 over 4. If you want 1 over 1 -no
problem, it's just your quote would be priced as 4
over 1.
- There
is no discount for a 4 over 4 traycard and a 4 over
1 booklet or vice versa. If your design wants this
coloration, no problem, nothing stopping you from
doing this, however your project would be billed as
4 over 4. As soon as you want color on both sides of
a part, then your quote becomes 4 over 4.
- NEVER
add SPOT colors to the paper parts of your job
unless you have specifically been quoted for a Spot
color. Even if your quote says "4 over 4"
- the '4' always refers to process colors (Cyan,
Magenta, Yellow and Black) - always phone us at
1-800-557-3347 and ask for a custom quote if your
job requires the addition of a spot color on the
paper parts of your project.
- Cardboard
pouches are always quoted as CMYK color over nothing
(4 over 0). Since all cardboard pouches are folded
to make a pouch, there is never ink printed on both
sides of the sheet of cardboard. PMS spot colors on
cardboard must always be quoted.

Indicating
color on our order forms

The order forms ask you to indicate the coloring of your booklet
(folder) and traycard.
-
4 + 1 =
CMYK color on one full side / B&W or grayscale reverse
side
-
4 + 4 =
CMYK (full) color on both sides
-
1 + 1 =
B&W or grayscale on each side
-
Other =
Since it is technically possible to only use a couple of
channels of color in a 4 color CMYK layout, indicate the
number of channels you are using. eg: if you are only using
Cyan and Black this would be "2" colors. So we
would write: 2 + 1 (the "1" is the B&W reverse
side)
