DDP - Disc Design Protocol:
What is
DDP?
A DDP image (disc
description protocol) is a set of files that contains the
contents of your title (the disc image) plus a set of
instructions that tell the encoder on the Laser Beam Recorder
how to format your disc. CDman is able to accept your contents
in the form of a DDP Image.
Why can't
I just copy the contents of my title to your FTP server?
CDman must create
a glass master for your title. In order to create this master,
we must feed the exact contents of your disc format into the
encoder on their Laser Beam Recorder. The encoder can usually
read the contents of a CD directly, or it can read a DDP image
from a file server or from a tape. If you transfer only the
contents of your order, we are forced to copy these contents
into a CD recording software package and burn a CD-R or DVD-R
check disc. This check disc image may contain the same contents,
but there is a chance that the structure of the disc or the
format of the disc may be different from your original. CDman
does not want to burn a CD to use as your master, due to the
time and cost of this procedure, and the liability we face if
the content does not match your original. A DDP image ensures
that all disc formats and file structures are preserved.
